The American singer-songwriter and pianist Billy Joel was born in the Bronx, New York on this day 1949. Joel’s piano skills came from his father, Howard Joel, who was a classical pianist. Billy Joel’s long career has yielded numerous hits including Piano Man, New York State of Mind, Uptown Girl and Scenes from an Italian Restaurant to name a few.
