1950’s

The Sex Pistols bass player Sid Vicious was born on this day 1957. The turbulent life of Sid began when born John Simon Ritchie, to John and Anne Ritchie in the London Borough of Lewisham. Shortly after his birth, his mother moved to Ibiza, hoping to be joined by her husband, although he never arrived. She later remarried Christopher Beverley and moved to Kent. Sid took his new fathers surname, but shortly after Christopher died from cancer. Sid went on to become one of the punk genre’s iconic characters during his short life.

I first heard Cold Blood on the Blues Kitchen Podcast a while ago. The San Francisco rock/funk band were signed by Bill Graham and played at Fillmore West. The 1969 debut eponymous album is a great example of their work, led by the powerful vocals of Lydia Pense. Anyone a fan?

The Prince album Lovesexy is 30 years old today! I’ve always had a fondness for Lovesexy, as it was the first tour I saw Prince live…and what a show! Includes Alphabet St, Glam Slam and I Wish U Heaven. I guess it doesn’t make your Prince top 3, but top 5?
