2010’s

The American jazz poet and author Gil Scott-Heron died at St. Luke’s Hospital, New York City on this day 2011.  Heron was best known for his social and political lyrics, and to some people was the first rapper.  The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is probably his most popular composition.

The American singer-songwriter and musician Gregg Allman, known for performing in the Allman Brothers Band died at his home in Richmond Hill, Georgia on this day 2017.  Allman’s death was due to complications from liver cancer, he was 69 years old.

James Blake took a 3-year hiatus before releasing his 3rd studio album The Colour of Anything in 2016. Blake’s previous outing Overgrown won the 2013 Mercury Prize, so a difficult act to follow. Blake headed to Malibu was guided by Rick Rubin, and procured the talents of Frank Ocean and Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver). The result was spectacular.
