1940’s

The American singer Aretha Franklin was born (Aretha Louise Franklin) on this day 1942 at the family home located at 406 Lucy Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Franklin was nicknamed the ‘Queen of Soul’, and best known singles such as Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Think, and I Say a Little Prayer, and albums like I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, Lady Soul and Amazing Grace.

1980’s

During the Motown 25 celebration show at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on this day 1983, Michael Jackson steals the show performing Billie Jean and for the first time his signature move, the Moonwalk.
