On this Day in Music – 22nd March

1970’s

The Allman Brothers Band were arrested in rural Alabama on this day 1971, and charged with possession of heroin, marijuana and PCP. The group spent one-night in jail, and were spared more time in the clink, by paying over $4,000 in fines.

No.1642 22/03/2021 – The debut solo album, Diva, by Annie Lennox was a huge commercial success for the former Eurythmics singer. Included the singles Why, Precious, Walking on Broken Glass, Cold and Little Bird. A beautifully produced LP.

Fundamental is the 9th studio album from Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, released in 2006. The Pet Shop Boys popularity had waned, so they enlisted producer supremo Trevor Horn, resulting in the duo’s most listenable album for years. Neil Tennant bought me a drink at a Bernard Butler gig, but that’s another story.
