On this Day in Music – 3rd December


1976 – Gunmen broke into Bob Marley’s home in Kingston attempting to assassinate the Reggae singer.  Marley was shot in the arm, and his wife Rita and manager Don Taylor were also hit.  Thankfully, nobody died, but the piece of lead stayed in Marley’s arm until his death in 1981.


1954Let’s Have Another Party by Winifred Atwell began a 5-week reign at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The ragtime medley track gave pianist Atwell her first number one, becoming the first black person to claim the number one spot.
