On this Day in Music – 25th July

2010’s

2010We No Speak Americano by Yolande Be Cool and DCUP became the UK Number One Single, where it remained for just one week. The song samples the 1956 Renato Carosone song Tu Vuò Fà L’Americano.

1960’s

1965 – On the Sunday night of the 1965 Newport Folk Festival Bob Dylan took to the stage and played to an audience who both cheered and jeered.  Dylan had upset a number of the audience as unannounced played with a fully amplified and electric band, which many in the crowd believed was Dylan turning his back on the traditional ‘folk’ roots. Dylan didn’t return to the festival for 37 years!
