On this Day in Music – 14th May

1950’s

The lead singer and guitarist of Talking Heads, David Byrne was born in Dumbarton, Scotland on this day 1952.  David was the elder of two children, and when aged two his parents moved to Canada.  Byrne’s band Talking Heads released 8 albums, with tracks including Road To Nowhere, Psycho Killer and Once In A Lifetime being among the favourites.

The debut album, Bliss Release, by Australian band Cloud Control celebrates 10th anniversary today! The LP of melodic guitar pop won the Australian Music Prize award in 2011. A throwback to yesteryear sounds, but a great listen nevertheless.

I listened to the new Juliana Hatfield album with much trepidation, not sure what to expect with Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John. I was pleasantly surprised. Includes versions of the hits Physical, Xanadu, Magic, I Honestly Love You and Hopelessly Devoted to You. A quality tribute.
