1940’s

The American singer, songwriter, record producer Smokey Robinson was born (William Robinson Jr.) in the North End area of Detroit, Michigan in 1940.  Robinson was the founder, chief song-writer and front man of the Motown group the Miracles.  Robinson’s hits include The Tears of A Clown, The Tracks of My Tears, Being With You and Cruisin’.

1980’s

AC/DC’s original lead vocalist Bon Scott was found dead (age 33) in a car in East Dulwich, London on this day 1980. The night before his death, he had been drinking heavily watching Protex and The Trendies at the Music Machine club (currently known as KOKO), and was left to sleep it off in a friend’s car.  During the night he choked on his own vomit.

The short punchy tracks are influenced by the power guitar pop artists prevalent in the 60s, with the opener Steady, As She Goes as one of the highlights.
