1930’s

The American multi-instrumentalist and record producer Quincy Jones was born (Quincy Delight Jones Jr.) on this day 1933 in the South Side of Chicago. Jones began his career in the 1950s as a jazz arranger, and is famous for producing the Michael Jackson albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.

No.1634 14/03/2021 – The debut eponymous Madonna album, released in 1983, made Madge a global sensation with the hit singles Holiday, Lucky Star, and Borderline boosting sales. The upbeat pop disco sound was created on new technology at the time making the LP a landmark 80s pop release.

No.555 14/03/2018 – The debut solo studio album by Morrissey, Viva Hate, is 30 years old today! The LP was released just 6-months after the last Smiths album, and features Everyday Is Like Sunday, and the cult Suedehead. Classic Mozzer and great to hear it again after many years!

No.920 14/03/2019 – The 4th solo Morrissey album Vauxhall And I is 25 years old today! The LP exhibited the usual Mozza wit, and lyrical wordplay, but also maturity. The single The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get was his, or The Smiths, only (moderate) chart success in the US.

2020’s

No.1287 14/03/2020 – The new Caribou album called Suddenly sees Dan Snaith having a jolly old time! The warm fuzzy feel of the Caribou sound is retained, although the LP takes unexpected twists and diversions taking the listener on a thought-provoking journey.
