2000’s

2015 – The theme song from the James Bond film Spectre, Writing’s on the Wall performed by Sam Smith became the UK Number One Single, for only one week. The song was the first James Bond theme song to become number one, and apparently only took around 20 minutes to write.

1960’s

1962Telstar by The Tornados became the UK Number One Single, where it remained for 5 weeks. The instrumental track, named after the communications satellite, was written and produced by Joe Meek.

1950’s

1951 – The former The Police lead-singer Sting was born (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) in Wallsend, Northumberland.
