2000’s

The Arctic Monkeys played their first live show on this day 2003. The band played original material and also covered White Stripes and Undertones tracks at the Grapes Pub in Sheffield, England, and received a paltry £27 for their efforts.

The River in Reverse, a collaboration between two great song-writers Elvis Costello and the late Allen Toussaint. The LP was released in 2006, just 9 months after the devastating Hurricane Katrina destroyed so much of Toussaint’s beloved hometown of New Orleans. The Grammy nominated LP featured songs mostly from Toussaint’s 60’s and 70’s back catalogue.

The eponymous debut Randy Newman album is 50 years old this month! The LP is a story of American life with characters, relationships and an uncanny awareness of social issues in the late 60’s. More orchestral than his later work.

The eponymous debut from the 22 yr old Canadian Colter Wall is dark and raw country, from the gruff voiced singer, now living in Kentucky. Such maturity at such a young age!
