On this Day in Music – 1st June

1940’s

The guitarist Ronnie Wood and member of The Rolling Stones was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex on this day 1947.  Wood is best known for being a member of the Stones since 1975, although earlier he was also in the Faces and the Jeff Beck Group.  Wood has also released solo albums.

The 1970 George Benson album The Other Side of Abbey Road celebrates a 50th anniversary this month! With Herbie Hancock on keys, Ron Carter on Bass, Benson re-worked a pop-jazz translation of The Beatles LP released the previous year. Nice!

The 2nd Mercury Rev album Boces is 25 years old today! The album sounded like nothing else at the time, full of improvisation and group collaboration. The original vocalist David Baker left the band the following year. Fascinating LP!
