The American singer, songwriter, and record producer Bobby Womack was born (Robert Dwayne Womack) on this day 1944 in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighbourhood. In the 1950’s Womack began his career as the lead singer of his family musical group The Valentinos, and as Sam Cooke’s backing guitarist. Womack was a prolific songwriter and helped write The Rolling Stones’ first UK number one single It’s All Over Now.
