2010’s

2014All About That Bass by American Meghan Trainor claimed No.1 in the UK Singles Chart, where it remained for 4 weeks.  The song’s lyrics caused minor controversy regarding the shaming of skinny girls.

1970’s

1973Elton John released Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The album was recorded at the Château d’Hérouville in France, and went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide.  The highlights include Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, the title track and Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.

1971 – The double A-side single Reason to Believe and Maggie May by Rod Stewart began a 5-week reign at the top of the UK Singles Chart. Reason to Believe was written by American folk singer Tim Hardin.

1950’s

1954 – The song Hold My Hand by American singer Don Cornell became the UK Number One Single.  Hold My Hand was the first single to claim the top spot on two separate occasions, with Vera Lynn’s My Son My Son replacing it at the top after 4 weeks, before Cornell reclaimed the top two weeks later for one more week.  The song was featured in the film Susan Slept Here.

1940’s

1947 – The AC/DC singer Brian Johnson was born in Dunston, Gateshead, England. Johnson became the band’s third singer following the death of Bon Scott in 1980.  In March 2016 Johnson left the band due to problems with his hearing.
