1992I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston started a 10-week reign at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The song, written by Dolly Parton, was from the soundtrack to The Bodyguard movie.  In Houston’s lifetime and following her death the track has become her signature tune.


1981Julio Iglesias’s Begin the Beguine (Volver A Empezar) began a one-week spell at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The song was written in 1935 by Cole Porter onboard a Cunard ocean liner between Indonesia and Fiji.


1932 – The flamboyant Little Richard was born (Richard Wayne Penniman) in Macon, Georgia. Richard was the third of twelve children, and is often quoted of laying the foundation for rock and roll.
