On this Day in Music – 3rd May

1930’s

The Godfather of Soul James Brown was born in small wooden shack in the woods of Barnwell, South Carolina on this day 1933. Brown’s mother Susie was just 16, and with his father Joe (22) lived in extreme poverty. They seperated a few years later. Brown was eleven when he started singing in talent shows.
