1940’s

The American singer-songwriter Stephen Stills was born in Dallas, Texas on this day 1945. Stills is best known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

The English bassist John Paul Jones was born (John Richard Baldwin) on this day 1946 in Sidcup, Kent.  Jones is best known as the bassist and keyboardist for the rock band Led Zeppelin.  In 2009 Jones joined Josh Homme and Dave Grohl in the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.

1950’s

The legendary Sun Studio at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee is opened by Sam Phillips on this day 1950. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis all recorded at the studio.

The American singer-songwriter and musician Damon McMahon, aka Amen Dunes, released Freedom in 2018 an album of intense beauty. Recorded at the legendary studios, Electric Lady Studios in NYC and at Sunset Sound in LA. Sadly, he his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the beginning of recording. An artist growing with every recording.
