On this Day in Music – 17th September

1960’s

1967 – The rock band The Who performed My Generation on the American variety show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. They ended the song by customarily smashing up their instruments, although Keith Moon had placed large quantities of explosive charge in his bass drums, which when detonated caused a mighty explosion, leaving Pete Townshend with singed hair and firing shrapnel into Moon’s arm.
