On this Day in Music – 16th November

2000’s

2001 – American jazz pianist Tommy Flanagan died at the Mount Sinai hospital in Manhattan, from complications relating to an aneurysm suffered a decade previous. Flanagan recorded on many legendary jazz albums, such as John Coltrane’s Giant Steps and Saxophone Colossus by Sonny Rollins, and was Ella Fitzgerald’s accompanist for many years.
