The 1956 album by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong simply titled Ella & Louis was their first of three LPs recorded together on the Verve label. The pair were accompanied by the Oscar Peterson Quartet. Simply charming!

Thanks to the @blueskitchen podcast for introducing me to the compilation album Local Customs: Lone Star Lowlands. Texas’ Golden Triangle was home to a vibrant rock and garage music scene recorded at Mickey Rouse’s Lowland operation out of Beaumont, Texas.

The Pakistani vocalist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was considered one of the greatest voices ever recorded. When Peter Gabriel introduced Khan to producer Michael Brook, they created an incredible album, the 1990 Real World released Mustt Mustt. Spellbinding!

The debut eponymous Suicide LP is 40 years old this month. The influential synth-punk album featured repetitive beats and rhythms, with Alan Vega’s rock ‘n’ roll influenced vocals. A hypnotising listen!
